Happy Birthday to an Icon



We at Stancombe feel very lucky to live and work in a city as beautiful as Sydney. Many of us make a point of driving over the Harbour Bridge when we visit our North Shore clients (rather than taking the more direct tunnel route), just to catch a glimpse of the sparkling harbour scene. Without doubt, the jewel in Sydney’s crown is Jorn Utzon’s architectural masterpiece – the Sydney Opera House – which is celebrating its 40th birthday. Imagine our delight when we were asked by Deloitte Access Economics and the Opera House to help survey both Australians and international visitors about our national icon, its place in our culture and its value to us. Deloitte’s report estimates the value of the Opera House to Australia as $4.6bn and highlights a significant contribution to not only our economy but our national identity.  It certainly rings true for us and we can highly recommend it as a great read, available here.
So happy birthday Sydney Opera House, here’s to the next 40 years of culture, entertainment and iconic beauty.
